George Chetwood Court

Our first visit out to a Wrekin Housing Trust group at George Chetwood Court in Dawley. What a fabulous  morning we had showing the slideshow and hearing people’s memories inspired by the photos we showed. Thanks everyone.. you're stars!

From memories inspired by the High Street photos …

………………… I worked in a shop selling fruit and veg. I lived at Sutton Maddock and I cycled to work it took me about ¾ of an hour. I left school on a Friday and started work there on the Monday aged 14 and left when I got married aged 23. During the war the Americans drove down the High Sreet in their jeeps – it was the main road then.

Carrefour

……………… ‘I worked there as senior Assistant Supervisor and then Assistant Manager. Caerphilly store was the first in this country and then Telford was opened. We used to send girls out to check the prices of items in other shops like Sainsburys.’

……………… ‘The bus service was very good. From Dawley you could get a bus anywhere. I used to go from Dawley to Wellington for the market.’

Thanks to our friends who visited today from Oakengates – we know you enjoyed looking at the photos on the table and discovering all the things that Southwater Library has to offer.

We loved your memories:  ‘Loved going on the pedaloes with my grandson. There were seats for two people and he would never let me peddle.’

We had a great crowd for this session with lots of memories about Dark Lane – including folks who had lived there. Thanks to all that attended and made it such a lively chat session. Memories to go on the table.

We had a great session with the help of the Friends of Dawley Town Hall. Thanks to all who came along or dropped by to view the photos on display and those who shared memories and information. The Hall looked fabulous and the new projector screen worked a treat. A big 'shout up' for Sue and Paul who brought along their own photos and led us through an enjoyable morning reminiscing... here's to the next one.
